Ivy AKAdemy
Alpha Omega Chapter and Alpha Omega Foundation have a
long history of providing academic and educational
opportunities for the young people in our community. The
Ivy AKAdemy has been established as the educational arm of
our chapter program initiatives. The AKAdemy is comprised
of five (5) major components. Below is an overview of the
AKAdemy targets.
Parent AKAdemy The newest of our
educational programs, the Parent AKAdemy was established
to address the concerns of parents of CMSD students in the
areas of homework help, student /parent/teacher
interaction, and to provide parents with techniques and
methods that will help their child in the areas of Reading
and Math. Currently, 30 families are participating in the
once a month activities at Robert Fulton and Joseph Landis
Schools. Additional support is given to siblings during
the parent learning sessions by volunteers from our
organization. They work with the young people teaching age
appropriate social skills or helping with homework.
K-3 Reading The Ivy Reading AKAdemy
(K-3) works with 30 grade 1-3 students at Robert Fulton
Elementary School. There are 18 tutors who work two days a
week with the students. In addition to Alpha Omega tutors
there were also community tutors. Alpha Omega chapter
works in collaboration with the Cleveland Scholarship
Tutoring program.
Leadership AKAdemy The Leadership AKAdemy is comprised of 30 students attending
on a regular basis. The Academicians attended workshops on
Economic and personal development. They participate in a
Kwanzaa celebration and in activities that helped them
learn about their own genealogy. They learn about the
judicial system through open discussions with four Court
Judges. They attend several cultural events each year.
They also have a field trip to Central State and
Wilberforce University and participated in an Underground
Railroad re-enactment at the Cleveland Metroparks.
Scholarship: Twenty eight students were
eligible for Alpha Omega Chapter Merit Scholarships
totaling $28,000 in scholarships. 27 scholarships have
been given to students based on credentials showing their
enrollment in college.
